Many would even receive signing bonuses. All that is in the past though. With downsizing or shipping work overseas the field of CS is just too vague. Everything happens in cycles though. So I predict that soon there will be another big push for CS majors (maybe not as huge as during the dot com era). I agree with the previous answer that CS is a broad major. Though, enrolling to Computer Science makes sense only, if you aren't going to work as a programmer the whole life, but get business education afterwards.
