   Yes. Usually it was the businesses they worked for at the time that motivated them, providing incentives such as paying for the classes, bonuses and possible promotions.

   In all fairness, women were included in this, too. But it could be argued that the motivation was aimed mainly at men since the men were a majority in the business sector.

   They were probably motivated by the early stirrings of the inflating dot-com bubble.
